Good morning!

Ssshh, we don't want to wake anyone!

So here we go again. We put on our backpacks and started on the so called 10 minute walk to the bus station. Obviously it took us about 30 mins. We were praying that they had tickets and that there was even a bus that went to Thailand!

We got in the bus station and Karen came back with 2 tickets but looking perplexed? She said I think I have them but they only cost 12 a ticket! So we were not sure if we were going to Thailand or some other place in China!

As it turned out we were going to Thailand and for 12 too. Result! There was a slight catch though but a very funny one. As we boarded the bus Karen pointed out that we will be sharing the journey with a freezer?? Lo and behold at the front of the bus strapped to two seats was a freezer. Fair enough. As the bus slowly filled up with people we noticed loads of Fruit & Veg sellers outside. Naturally we thought they were trying to sell to us passengers before we depart. Oh no! The bus driver then proceeded to load up the whole bus with fruit & veg. I mean everywhere. We had huge bags of garlic under our seat, melons down the ailse, tomatoes above our heads! It was madness but very comical. Whenever we stopped for a toilet break, we all literally had to climb over huge boxes of produce.

So we are on our way to Thailand. Woo hoo. The bus took 11 hours in total but it was a great journey as it broke up into lots of parts. The first part we had was leaving China & entering Laos. It was great as it is the first time we have ever entered a country by walking into it (the bus met us at the other end). Now if you want to give your tourists a good impression when they first enter your country, the Laos authorities when hands down. As we were picking up our visa, the guy who processed it came into his office with his little daughter! So there we were in a situation that is normally done with sour faced officials but on this occasion was done with a doting Daddy! Brilliant.

We loved the look of Laos and can't wait to come back. We stopped for lunch in the middle of nowhere. It was jungle all around us, a river running below and all these quaint little wooden houses with thatched roofs.

After 11 hours we jumped off the bus and onto a rickshaw. We were only on it for 10 mins when we jumped out and got in a long boat to cross the Mekong river and that is how we entered the mighty kingdom of Thailand. By boat. So we managed it after all.

It's been a long day so we will talk to you in the morning. Another early start unfortunately, so see you at 05:30!

Love ya,

Paul & Karen xxx
