Hi all!

My god we have almost caught up to the present day! I think the last time we did that was on 09/08/10 when we left!

So Kunming. The city was not on our plan after Yangshou as we wanted to get straight down to Thailand but for some stupid reason the Thai authorities only issue 2 week visas on arrival when you are travelling overland. So we had to get our 2 month visas from Kunming.

I must warn you that these next few blogs are going to be quite short and have hardly any photos as they mainly concern what we had to go through to get to our present location. I think it was the first time we were envious of our fellow travellers getting planes to travel. Now that we have done it I am glad that we stuck to our "No fly" policy as in retrospect the journey was amazing.

So not much to say about Kunming really apart from we were there 2 nights until our visa got sorted and that I had the runs! We just crashed in our hostel chatting away to fellow backpackers. To be honest I do not think we missed anything as the city is very polluted. We read one statistic that said there are 400/500 new cars on the road in Kunming EVERY day! Madness, absolute madness.

On our last day we woke up (me still with belly trouble) grabbed our passports from the Thai consulate and jumped on the first of our epic bus journeys. This first bus journey was a mere 10/12 hours to Jinghong. We were hoping to catch a ride down to Thailand on a boat the sails down the mighty Mekong river from Jinghong but had not managed to book anything. So we were turning up there and hoping that somebody would give us some information.

See you when we get of the bus!
