We set off from San Francisco to travel back to LA along Route 1. This winds it way down, hugging the coast, which is stunning in places. We stopped at a few places, sitting on the beach to take in the fresh air and sun, it was warm again!

We stopped at an RV park for the night and continued on to Moss Landing. We visited the Ano Nueva National Park to see the elephant seals. They were amazing, all lolling on the beach, the males with huge noses. A guide explained about them moulting and should us some of their fur.

We carried on down to Santa Cruz, a lovely seaside resort, with funfair. It was so busy we did not stop too long. But continued to a smaller, quieter village further down the coast. We had a walk along the sea front, where everyone was feeding the squirrels. I was fascinated by the sea otters, so cute, eat their food off their chests - amazing!

We found a RV park for the night. then the next day set off for the Elkhorn Bird Reserve for a bit of Bird Watching. Was a tad disappointing as we saw only a few egrets and ducks. Well it was a nice walk.

After lunch at Denny's, we continued around Monterey Bay and drove around '17 Mile Drive', a strange place, a little too mancured and false looking. The road then got a bit rough as some of it had been washed away with the storms and was under repair. We drove to Big Sur, where we were lucky to get the last space at the RV Park. A lovely setting in the woods by the river.

We cleaned the van in preparation to give it back in LA. Then set off to see Hearst Castle, unfortunately the queue was huge and if we had waited we would not have made it back to LA on time. So I bought a book and a postcard and we left.

On the next stage, we were followed by a police car, I did not think anything of it as i wasn't speeding (for once!) Next minute the blue lights came on and the police guy told me over the loud speakers to stop. Luckily the van hire people told me to keep my hands on the wheel, and just do as the police says, if we were ever stopped. So I did just that. He thought I had been drinking! I said it was just the windy roads and him making me nervous. luckily he let us go and just said to drive more carefully - phew!

We drove through the lovely Malibu and thenthrough the centre of LA, thank god for Sat Nav. we decided to have an extra night in the hotel so park the campervan in the carpark and checked in. It was so lovely to have a shower and a soft bed!
