Today starts my first day of my travels. Waking up was pretty difficult, I stayed up until 2 AM last night packing at the last minute. That's what happens when you don't start packing until 11:30pm. I tried hard not to forget anything but I was just too tired to stay up any later, so lets hope its not anything important like underwear.

The few days that the hospital let me have off to study were helpful except for yesterday. I laid in bed all day on the internet.  I added more to my couch surfing website profile and started this travel blog, so I'd say it was productive. It just doesn't help the fact that I'm taking my medical boards next Wednesday! I am an expert procrastinator, but I'll get it done even if I do cram and sacrifice some sleep. Welcome to my life!

Getting to the airport was the easy part this morning. Dug out my car from the snow and kissed Jen goodbye, and then waited for my 12 hrs of airplane rides and transfers. Being cheap isn't easy! I think my ears popped about 10 times all day. My plan was to study on the plane but I didn't realize how difficult it was to study with an ear ache. I got about a total of 2 or 3 hours of studying done and slept most of the morning.

OH YEAH! My bag had to be checked at the last minute because they ran out of room in the overhead bins. I didn't check my bag in the first place because I have a million transfers on my flight and I knew it'd probably get lost. And of course it did get lost. Sometimes I wonder if planning this trip before my boards was a bad idea, especially now that I have to hunt down my bags. I really desperately needed a vacation though and leaving behind the cold weather in the worst winter Philadelphia has ever seen is pretty nice.

I snapped a photo from the plane somewhere over Wyoming on the way to Seattle. Why was I going to Seattle on my way to Long Beach?? Somehow it has to be cheaper for American Airlines but I have no clue. Seattle has an cloudy overcast but it wasn't cold. I saw dreadlocks and hiking backpacks. I'm already sold on the place.

I also stopped in Austin, Texas where it was warm and sunny and the airport terminal the biggest I've ever seen. There were probably 15 sit-down restaurants outside of the central food court. Except I didn't have any time to stop except to grab a quick bite from Wendy's and then I got to the gate just as they started boarding the plane. The whole day felt rushed and cramped, and it hadn't set in that I was headed to California and the west coast.

On one of my layovers, I catch glimpse of the news passing by a television at some airport restaurant. The news headline was about the earthquake in Chile, and all that came to mind was, "Again?!" I started to worry after I realized that I'm headed for California, earthquake central of the US. They also issued tsunami warnings for the entire west coast and Hawaii. I have perfect timing for a trip to Long Beach.

I really miss the peanuts they used to give you on the planes. Lesson learned, I'm packing my own snacks/food next time. I also snapped a picture of Seattle right as they told me to turn off all electronics for landing. Or maybe after they told me to turn it off, we were flying pretty low. We survived! My camera didn't mess up the airplane navigation, don't worry.
