Justin and I shut down the office at 12:30 and left to go watch Bosco compete in a local surf competition, despite the fact that we were expecting an 18-person group to arrive for check-in at any moment. Just put up the "Will Return" sign with the clock's hands pointing towards 2pm and closed up shop, simple as that. Bosco did well even though he seemed to care less than a little for the actual competition. In his second heat one of his drunk friends decided to surf without his boardshorts, apparently something he's made into a yearly tradition. It was a nice chill Ozzie experience, and Justin was kind enough to let me stay at the beach for the rest of the day even though he had me scheduled to work that entire afternoon.
Later that night I went out and had yet another adventure. I drove to Bosco's parents' house about twenty minutes away and left my ghetto van there for the night, planning on crashing there later in the guest house. Bosco and I then took a cab with 8 other people (10 in one cab, yikes!) to this other town yet another twenty minutes away where we went to a bar and met up with two English girls who had been staying at our hostel up until yesterday. Then around 2am we had to leave to catch the last bus of the night back, which passed us as we walked down the street towards the bus stop. Bosco said no worries, it makes a loop downtown and comes back, we wouldn't catch it on that side of the road anyway, we totally have time to go to Mobil mart and get chicken wings. So off we go to get the entirely necessary middle of the night snack and stumble back to the bus stop where we both promptly fall asleep on the pavement waiting for it to come. I suddenly wake up from this cement nap like 45 minutes later and start prodding Bosco about what we're going to do. He calls his 8 friends who are taking a cab back and asks them to swing by us, since it's pretty apparent that we missed the bus. They don't come and don't come and don't come so he calls again to find that they've left us, and immediately runs to the curb with his thumb out to miraculously hail down a big rig. A 16-wheeler! It just happened to be going by us in this random beach town at 3am and gives us a ride all the way back to his parents' house. The driver couldn't have been nicer and he saved us a $50 cab ride back. Definitely the most hilarious way to end the night.
