It's worth looking up St. Joseph Peninsula State Park to get an idea of where it is located.   It felt like we were right in the Gulf of Mexico, surrounded by water.  We loved how quiet and remote it was, completely untouched by Florida's tourist industry.  The beach was the nicest we have seen thus far and our whole time there we didn't leave the State Park at all.  The kids, and us also, were able to take a nice break from driving and it seemed like we were outside the entire 3 days we were there.

One of the best things about being on vacation is not having to rush out the door in the morning to work or school.  We have taken advantage of this and when it works out we have taken turns going for a run on the beach in the morning.  It's been a great way to start the day!     One morning Cohen asked Bruce if he could join him.  They had an amazing early morning adventure watching the sun come up, running on the beach and biking to explore new areas we hadn't been to yet.  They found a great playground and watched 2 deer enjoying their breakfast.   Later in the day they took us on their route so we could all see how beautiful the peninsula was.

We found most of the people at the campground were older retired couples, and not too many families, likely because of the time of year.  It kind of made our children popular around the place and lots of people would stop, talk, say how cute they all were, and even give them cool shells they found.  We met lots of nice people and have found there is quite a community spirit in most of the State Parks we have stayed at.  People are very generous with recommendations and tips and have even offered us maps!  A lot of people are proud of their RV's and trailers and love to show you the inside of them.  We had fun touring through a trailer that we might like to upgrade to after this trip or maybe even during!  We are happy with our trailer and decided on something smaller so it would be easy to tow and tour with, plus wouldn't be too hard on the gas tank.  We needed something that would sleep 5 easily and we thought a hybrid would be perfect for us.  We have found it a little bit of a pain having to unfold the 2 ends with how much we're moving around but feel that ultimately this trailer has been perfect for this trip.

We spent a lot of time on the beach playing in the sand and swimming in the waves.  We also did some surf fishing which we had never done before.  Some of the more serious fishermen had white tubes they stuck into the sand to put their fishing rod in so they could sit in their chairs and just completely relax on the beach.  Caleb thought this was a great idea and decided to buy one next time he had the chance.  We didn't have luck catching anything but lots of the fishermen around us were pulling in some pretty big ones.

As we were going for a walk along the beach we came across a small shark that was dead on the sand.  We all took the opportunity to have a good look at it and even looked inside it's mouth to see its teeth.  A little gross I know, boys!  We thought it would be hilarious to hold it up and take our picture with it making it look like we caught it.  We got a few laughs from the people around us and an older couple even came over and asked if they could do the same thing!  Even Clare got in on it and laid on the beach next to it posing!

St. Joes was an absolute moment of solitude for our family.  It felt like we had stepped off the beaten track, caught our breath, and were rejuvenated!
