After months of preparation we excitedly climbed out of bed at 3 am ready to hit the road. Everything and everyone was loaded into the trailer and truck and we pulled out of our driveway at 3:30 am exactly.  Things were going quite smoothly until we rounded our first corner and the co-pilot undermined the pilots navigation skills by asking "do you know where we are going"?  She was meet with a half grin and a "I think I got it"!

It didn't take long for us to make our first mistake of the trip.  We assumed that if we left in the middle of the night we could have a few hours of "quiet" driving time while our children slept soundly. Not exactly how it worked out but after a few "we're not talking right nows", some "it's the middle of the night" and finally "go to sleep"! Bruce had his first and probably last hour of quiet.

We knew it really hadn't sunk into the kids just what this trip was going to entail when a few hours into the drive Cohen asked if our hotel had a pool. Later in the day, we overheard Cohen say to Caleb he wished we could stay here longer and that he couldn't wait for our "big trip" to come. Caleb of course responded " THIS IS OUR BIG TRIP"!  Admittedly, we can't believe it is finally here either.

As we were driving through Carlisle, Pennsylvania we noticed the Army Heritage Center from the highway.  The big tanks, helicopters, and battlefield caught our attention and we thought it would be a great place to stop.  It also immediately made us think of our friends Chip and Sandra Stewart!  It was a fascinating place with hands on exhibits and lots of info about the different wars and how they affected the army and the U.S.A.   They also had a walking tour outside that had full scale reconstructions of civil war encampments, a WW1 trench system, and a WW2 company area.  We were glad we made the stop.

Caleb had a little excitement when we stopped at the Virginia welcome center and a man asked us if we would mind if Caleb crawled through a window in his huge RV.  He had locked himself out.  Caleb made it through the window but couldn't get the door open so the man was able to open a larger window that Aimee could crawl through.  We got the door open for him and were on our way to North Fork Resort for our first night of camping.  Sorry Cohen, the pool is still closed for the season! After a few rounds of mini golf we were all ready to settle into the trailer for a much needed sleep!

No Cohen, you have to wait for the pool! It is really nice to be able to follow your family day by day and it makes my day as well . LUV Dadf
