Okay, so I change my mind and retract my initial opinion of this city.  I think Buenos Aires is a great city with lots of charm and character.  For all the grit that I saw walking from the bus terminal to the train station in Retiro, BA has as much glitz and glamour in Palermo and Recoleta (and is much more dynamic than Santiago).  Since we didn´t make much of our first day in BA except for eating and checking out a bar in Plaza Serrano, the second day was dedicated almost solely to checking out the city and a couple of its different neighbourhoods.

We took the metro, or subte, as it's called, from Palermo to the end of the line (Catedral) and from there, started seeing the sights.  We started out at the Plaza de Mayo, and saw the sights around it, including the Casa Rosada and the Catedral.  We moved our way to the Obelisk on 9 de Julio, one of the widest avenues in the world.  We then stopped a bit to eat at a local pizzeria, and then we walked all the way up to Recoleta and saw the famous cemetery, where the deceased elite of Buenos Aires are extravagantly housed in grand, elaborate mausoleums fit for royalty.  Among these lie none other than Evita Perón...

After, we strolled lazily through the artisan stalls outside the cemetery, and continued our city tour across a bridge and down a wide avenue to an 18-tonne giant metal flower, Floralis Generica.  Hiyasmin and Julia took a taxi back to the hostel, while Andy, Kushal, and I decided to walk back all the way, paying admission to the Japanese Garden (5 peso admission) and walking by the zoo (peaking through the fences to see flamingos) on the way back...
