...but it rained in the late afternoon!  I'm guessing it's not the town itself that's actually the driest place on Earth.  We were in a small internet cafe in the centre of town when it actually rained, and it was a welcome reprieve to the sweltering heat...

The full day tour turned out to be really great.  My eyes have bore witness to some of the most beautiful and striking landscapes today.

The tour bus picked us up at our hostel in the morning, and our first stop was the Salar de Atacama, or Atacama Salt Flat, which is the third largest of its kind in the world and contains two-thirds of the world's lithium, which is used in manufacturing aluminum, glass, lubricating greases, batteries, and airconditioning units.  It was possible to see crystallized salt formations as far as the eye could see...
