After almost a weeks delay, we finally got ourselves on a trip to The Salt Flats. This involved a 4 day trip in a 4x4 jeep through valleys and mountains between Tupiza and Uyuni. There were 6 of us in the jeep- 4 tourists, the driver and a cook. Luckily, one of the girls with us could speak Spanish as neither the driver or the cook could speak a word of English. The food over the 4 days was unreal! We never got hungry as the cook made massive meals and passed out snacks throughout the day. The first day was mostly driving. The views were amazing and we even reached an altitude of 4,855m. Day 2, we saw several colorful lagoons, hot springs, geysers, flamingos and llamas. Day 3, we saw more lagoons, incredible rock formations, an active volcano and travelled through many tiny villages. Of course, the final day was the highlight. We got up before sunrise and travelled to the Salt Flats. This is basically a 10,000sq km area which used to be a lake. When the water dried up, all that remained was a perfectly flat salt surface. Pictures can`t even explain how gorgeous this place is. We spent hours here taking photos. After, we visited local shops and the Salt Hotel which is a hotel made of salt. Over the 4 day tour, we stayed in really nice hostels and met lovely people from the other jeeps. Our favourite was the hostel we stayed in made out of salt. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the trip.
