We have had a busy time in Buenos Aires getting everything in order for our trip, but we are now ready to go. "Ginger", our mascot, strapped to Philsy`s handlebars, is also rearing to go. All that holds us back now is finding a flight to Ushuaia . . .

A week ago now, Philsy landed safely in Buenos Aires along with most of his bike. The condition of the bike when it came off the plane (the handlebars bent, two water bottle carriers broken clean off and the dynamo obliterated) has left us wondering whether or not a bomb had detonated in the hold. We found a good bicycle shop though and everything is once again in order. Starky bought himself a spanking new red bicycle of which he is very proud. Safety conscious as we are, we have fitted bells to our bikes: Starky soon found a good use for them - gaining the attention of the "guapas" as we cycle past. In between making our preparations, we enjoyed superb displays of tango at Plaza Dorrego, consumed much red wine and red meat, and for all those of you in snowy Britannia: the weather has been superb.

In keeping with tradition, we scoured the ciy of Buenos Aires in search of the perfect pair of wine goblets for our trip. On the last trip, our pair of long-stemmed Edinburgh Crystal wine goblets miraculously survived the 1564 miles from London to Lisbon. It would perhaps be too much to expect such glasses to survive 6500 miles, so we opted for these elegant, but ever so practical, silver goblets instead. Cheers!

PS - Rather worryingly, in a moment of disorientation (he says) Starky commented on how close we would be to Canada, being so close to the Antarctic. This does not bode well for confidence in our chief navigator.
