Hit up Peter and Paul fortress yesterday-a few stops on the russian metro so nice and close, everything is a bit easier in St P because there is a little more english going round...

Fortress is on the river and backed by a canal so it is a little island, plenty of museums in there but it is just a nice place to walk around and check out, there is a beach on the river overlooking the buildings on the opposite bank and all the locals come out to sunbake and some even swim.
