This is my last offically whole day in Xela Guatemala.
The last week has been interesting and i have seen many different and interesting things. I leave tommorow at 7 am to Panachel, Guatemala. I am looking foward to this as Panachel is on a lake that is supposely very beautuiful.
On wednesday the teachers took myself and another student to this hot springs located in the middle of the jungle. It was really amazing. The pool was heated from a close volcano and the water was really hot. On the way to the hot springs the driver stopped at a glass factory. We got to walk through it and got a free tour. The factory was very chaotic and interesting at the same time. The guide said that the factory exports the glass to europe and the united states. After the factory we took a long single lane road through the mountains until we reached the hot springs. After the hot springs the driver took us to this small farm village and gave us a tour of the local village. It was very cool and i enjoyed it alot. Wednesday was lots of fun.
Thursday night i took a salsa class which i enjoyed alot. Salsa was hard for me to pickup but by the end of the class i learnt some basic moves and a bunch of spins. I hope by the end of the trip i take a few more classes.
Friday I went to a medium sized town outside xela. We walked around the city for a bit. We visited a small artist who said he gets streets kids invovled in the making of tradiational guatemala art. We showed us how to make it and did a small demonstration for us. This was the best part of the day as I learned how the local clothing that I have admire since i have gotten in guatemala was made.
Today i woke up at 7 am to climb another volcano. This volcano was much smaller then the last one but alot harder to climb. The climb up was fun as I again walked through crops of fruits and vegetables. After we finished walking through the farmlands we headed up into this forest away. A little bit later we crosses a soccer field. There seems to be a soccer field everywhere in guatemala. Near the top of the volcano we entered this really rocky part where the volcano thousands of years ago formed these sharp rocks. We walked through this vally surround by sharp rocks. It was very beautuiful . When we reached the top it was amazing. You could see all of Xela and its surrounding villages. A great way to end my 2 weeks in Xela.
Tommorow I head out to Panachel for a few days then I will be heading towards Antigua for awhile. I will make my next post when i have returned from tikal sometimes at the end of next week.
