Oh train travel...patience is a necessary amenity, especially when the train is 2 hours late to start with...delightful...
So by the time we finally got on the train needless to say we were running a bit late, but it worked out ok because we met a really interesting american family who was on the road for 5 weeks with their 3 children and their eldests' girlfriend...their youngest was 12 and he has travelled quite extensively!  It seems that I've got competition...
Anywho we got into Bucharest and got another ticket and made our way to Brasov (which was another 2 and a half hours or so)
We got their in the wee hours of the evening and belive it or not, we had trouble finding a cab...I expected to be accosted by cabbies, and Roma for that matter, what with all the warnings people and guidebooks give...
In fact I saw all of one or two Roma during my whole stay in Brasov, maybe they're a problem in the capital, but I had absolutely no problems...no one so much as begged from us...
I would like to say that we were terribly productive, but we were a wee bit knackered and there was a festival going on and the weather was rather shitty...excuses excuses I know...but seeing as how we're used to no more than a month or so this 3 month constant pace has been getting to us...
Besides, I know that I would like to come back to Romania, as it wasn't at all what I expected...no one begging, the train's were some of the best I've taken (not the one that went into Bulgaria though) and the people seemed fairly friendly and helpful...
The only crap experiences we had were when we ate out...
1} Sam ordered a beer and they didn't have the brand or the 2nd choice, only the most expensive one, but not 5 minutes later, they brought out the other 2 types of beer for other customers...he also asked for soup but same story, didn't have it but brought it out after for other people...
2) Next restaurant, I ordered a salad, they brought me a different one, I didn't want to be difficult so I ate it, but then they tried to charge me the higher price of the first one, when I explained he said that it didn't matter and he still fully expected me to pay full price...
Luckily for us, we had a kitchen at our hostel and so after that we vowed to cook...thank god I'm travelling with a chef!  He's a miracle worker...not that I've picked up any of his skills yet...
Anywho, definitely Romania, the city we went to at least, completely shattered my expectations, from all the warnings and tip I'd received....maybe the capital is sketchy but the countryside is quite lovely...
So once again a vital lesson has been reiterated...don't listen to what people tell you cuz it's often wrong...
