We took a day trip from Ljubliana to go to the Skocjan caves...
They are the only UNESCO site in Slovenia and a pretty frickin huge caving system!
They go a total of 3.5 kilometres underground and were formed by the nearby river...
There is a huge chasm inside...and we went down so far that we were 170 metres under the ground!  But at least since it was big, claustrophobia never really became an issue...
In the area of the country, there are 2 caves that you can visit...Skocjan or Postojna, we chose the first as it was half the price and way less touristy as it is a bit off the beaten track...
It was a miserable day that we chose to visit them and it was an hour walk from the train station, with no taxi in site...we started walking but a lady stopped us and told us that we were going the wrong way...then she gave us a ride half of the way...which was great...we walked through the woods a bit and then did our tour...at the end of it, we had to make our way back to the train station, I started talking to some Germans who did the cave tour with us and they gave us a ride! Thank goodness for my sweet language hookups!

Good job, you lil hitchhiker!!! I hope it's warming up where you are, especially if you're venturing into cold dark caves... Bye for now!
