Hey,
Alright I'm in Vilnius!  For those of you who are uninclined geographically, Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania...the third and final Baltic country on our tour...
The currency here is the lita, one lita is about $2.50 Canadian and prices here are quite reasonable so our money has been going far!
I have been saying thank you in Lithuanian over and over agin, because the word makes me laugh...Aciu, pronounced ashoo, or a typical sneezing sound...
The hostel we stayed at in Vilnius was great!  It was called the Vilnius Backpackers and it had heated floors in the bathroom!  It could only sleep about 24 people so we found it very cozy...the first night, the hostel was short on beds so Sam and I had to share a bunk, but it was fairly comfy and we had a place to sleep so we really couldn't complain...
We met some really cool people at the hostel:  Jamie, another Englishman, we re-met up with Patrick, an Aussie boy that we met in Helsinki and there was also a huge group of Italian, Spanish and Germans so I practiced my language skills...at least I made a valiant effort of it...
The first day, Sam and I wandered around Vilnius, in the blistering cold...we weren't terribly motivated as we couldn't feel the vast majority of our body parts....but we saw a lot of beautiful sites, we even hiked up a bloody huge hill!  I was only mildly winded at least...
Another interesting facet of Vilnius is the independent republic of Uzipis, they even have passport control on April Fool's Day...It's basically a haven for artists, drunks, etc.  they even have a constitution, which is in my photo album for Vilnius...some of the tenets are hilarious!
On our last day, Sam and I, along with Jamie, headed to Trakai, a small village about 30 minutes outside of Vilnius to see the castle and as the lake was frozen over, we also got to walk across it and as the sun was out, we were almost warm!  It was a great day and a beautiful place to go!
Cheers
Ali
