We arrived bright and early in sunny Cape Town and due to the fact that we were carrying a sizeable amount of cash, we were picked up from the airport by our hotel.

Driving into the city from the airport, the contrast of buildings was immense.  On one side of the road, you can see the giant soccer/football stadium being built for the 2010 Tournament, along with beautiful gated neighbourhoods, which would not be out of place in North America or Europe.  When you look to the other side of the street, you can see squalid (yet organized) shanty towns, filled with hundreds of tin-roof shacks.

Upon arrival in the city and with only one day of sightseeing available to us, we opted for the Cape Town Hop-on Hop-off bus, which whisked us to all the main sites around the city.  We cruised through the harbour, the downtown core, by the castle, by Table Mountain and glimpsed some of Cape Town's beautiful beaches, all from the comfort of a red double decker bus!

We were only really out and about during the day (thus I understand that what I am about to say could esily be contradicted during night time), but I did not feel threatened at any point during the day, although at some moments I was overwhelmed by the constant flow of people.

All in all, Cape Town is a beautiful city with lot's to offer any traveller: beaches, classy restaurants, tons of museums, history galore, nature activities (hiking, shark diving, penguin spotting, etc.) and I would highly recommend it to anyone venturing to this area of the globe!
