When you see a Hollywood movie about Bangkok, the usual negative stereotype is drugs, prostitutes, kidnappings, police corruption and gang violence. When we saw the real Bangkok, it was a pleasant surprise of modern shopping centers, efficient skytrain / metro transport, golden temples, and polite people. There are plenty of shopping centers if you are looking for a bargain on the latest electronic gadgets. There are plenty of street markets if you are looking for that unique gift to bring back home. Bangkok is somewhat polluted, but no more than any other Asian city. The vehicle traffic is jam packed, so it is often faster to walk than taking a taxi. It is worth exploring the colorful city a few days. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Bangkok.
