Flag of Turkey  ,

Since the last update, we have been crossing between Turkey and Greece and we decided to have one last Greek meal in Simi before we left, despite the fact that we have had very few memorable Greek meals. We finally left, looking forward to Turkish cuisine!  On the journey, I took down the very tired Greek flag for the last time on this outing and unfortunately dropped it as I was hoisting the Turkish flag. It was over the side and sinking within seconds - not a very fitting end but it saved me having to throw it away!!
We arrived in a fjord - like inlet with buoys and there was a man in a small wooden rowing boat attracting our attention who kindly took our rope to the buoy and another one to the shore (a job I usually do by swimming). "I'm from Captain Nemo's restaurant" he said and we agreed to celebrate our arrival in Turkey by sampling his fare. There was no menu - everyone had a mixed plate starter and either chicken or fish for the main course with fresh fruit to follow. Washed down with beer, it was all very tasty, but unfortunately the price means I'm back in the kitchen tonight!!

You'll be pleased to hear that Bridget got her second break from the kitchen the very next day when we pulled into a little bay called Ciftlik. There to greet us and take our ropes  was 'Memet', who pointed out to us his restaurant, 'Memets' Place'; quite a contrast from the previous evening. The food was tastier, the range was greater, and the price was half of what we had paid previously.

Ciftlik is a small tourist area which is only about 5 or 6 miles from Marmaris so we are nearly at our winter resting place. Apparently it takes nearly 50 minutes to make the journey by mini-bus (known locally as a 'Dolmush') as the roads are so twisty as they wind their way across the mountainous countryside.

Realising that our summer voyaging is nearing an end it seems a shame that it all has to slow down for several months as we start to shelter from the coming winter weather. We've travelled so far; seen so many things; visited so many islands; met so many people, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on the way (except for a few bad experiences when the wind got up!!).

We hope to use Marmaris as a winter base to explore some parts of inland Turkey. Equally we also have a long list of jobs to do on the boat before we start our travels again next Spring so we intend to keep busy.

I hope people have found various parts of our travelogue interesting. We intend to keep it running so I'm afraid that you will be getting further updates during the winter months. (Unless you ask to be excused!!).

Kloser to Kos!
Hi Guys,
Pleased you made Mohamets place and are now on the downwind run to Yat Marine, Marmaris. It seems the world and his wife are wintering there this year as every Brit we have encountered in the last two weeks seems to be is heading that way.

We pulled into Kos Town Quay last night thinking we would have a couple of nights 'on the town' before settling into our winter berth in Kos Marina. We got the bikes out today and pedalled South calling in at the marina to let them know we were around and due to fly home Monday. Wise move because they are fully booked. They advised us to leave the town quay and get into our slot immediately so we would be able to leave early on Monday for the airport. So here we are on Delta 439 taking it easy for the next three days and looking forward to returning at the end of October.
Best wishes,
Sue & Terry
