Ellllloooooooo! I'm in a good mood for whatever reason even though it is after 11 and I should be really tired, as I haven't been feeling my best today like many of the others here in the group. A bunch of us are coming down with colds and stomach virus things. As of present, I think I have the stomach bug and my nose has been a little bit of pain. But in all honestly its nothing major.

So yes, Monday we had class and started working our way through the Laxdaela Saga. And it has definitely been an interesting read that I have very much enjoy throughout the week. And I would definitely recommend it to any body who is interested in reading a historical novel type thing.

Tuesday, we had class and then in the afternoon a friend of Dr. Novak's named Erlingur came and talked to us. We had already heard of him via the emails that we received before departing about the volcano. A good deal of them dealt with his cats, so when he came he showed us pictures of them. It was really interesting to hear him talk because his view on certain matters were very different from those of Drs. Novak & Grathwohl, as well as the books and articles we have read for class. He mainly talked about the history the Icelandic saga, genealogy, and a little about historic volcanic eruptions.

Wednesday we once again had class and talked more about the Laxdaela Saga and then after lunch we took another trip in Selfoss so many of us could go grocery shopping. I bought more skyr and a few other snacky things. Oh! And Regan manged to find a British copy of the Chamber of Secrets in the thrift store. I payed 100 kronur for it, which ends up being about 88 cents back home. Needless to say that totally made my day. ^^ So now all I need to find is Books 1, 3 and 4 and I shall have an entire set of the British Harry Potter books. Oh and I almost forgot, I took pictures while I was in Selfoss this time for because someone was upset that I didn't the first time. *cough, cough, dad, cough cough*  But yes, Drs. Novak and Grathwohl promise us another wonder on the way back to Skalholt. And so we stopped at a place called Kerio. And Kerio is a gigantic volcanic crater. And there was a steep hill leading down to the water area, of which myself and several others made our way down too. And then we striped off our shoes, rolled up our pants and stuck our feet in the water. Except for Dr. Novak who in fact went swimming. Did I mention how cold and windy it was outside that day? But yes, the water was extremely cold though once your legs and feet numbed the water felt fine. And when I got out of the water my feet were also warm, which tells you how cold the water was.

[EDIT (6/17/10)] I'm horribly upset to say that I completely forgot to mention that I went to a party Wednesday evening after dinner. We went over the the Rector of Skalholts home and for an hour or two. While we were their, Dr. Novak had several of us try something called stinking shark. And it has that name for a really good reason. But yes, I tried some and it was really chewy and fishy tasting but the extremely strong alcohol that I had after it helped out a lot. Its called Brennivin in case anyone is curious. But yes, they sang for us as well and it was wonderful.

Okay and then today we had class again, finishing up the saga though we are having a debt about some of the characters tomorrow before we had out on a road trip for the weekend. ^^ But yes, so after dinner we had a very nice young lady named Dyfrinna come and teach us some Icelandic phrases. I'd type some of what we learned in here but I don't have all the right symbols and stuff at the moment to go with it. So I think I'll try and post some of them next time after I've had time to play around with Microsoft Word and find the symbols. But yes, so I'm once again going somewhere for the weekend, so I'll be sure to update on Sunday evening and that's also probably when I'll get on skype next. So till then. TTFN!

p.s. Random picture at the end is of Hekla the nearby volcano which has been hiding in the clouds but we could actually see her this evening.
