This is the final day in Croatia.  Yesterday was such fun but packing is not a job I enjoy at all, especially when you find the dirty clothes do not fit in as nicely as the clean ones.  Fortunately, I bought a couple of zip lock, compression bags before my last trip.  Put the clothes in, zip up, and then squeeze out the air through the one way valve and it takes up 2/3rd or less of the space it originally did.  Also keeps the dirty clothes separate from those that are still clean.   The flight was a crazy schedule.  I flew from Dubrovnik (south Croatia) to Zagreb (North Croatia), changed planes, flew back to Split, few hundred miles from Dubrovnik where I started and from there to Rome.  At the time I booked I could either have gone from Dubrovnik to Belgrade in Serbia at some ridiculous hour in the morning, (7:00 am if I remember correctly) waited in the airport for 6 hours and flew to Rome, and got there about 5:30 p.m..   Or I could have paid $100 more and got an 1:00 p.m. flight and did as explained above and got to Rome at 5:15 pm.  Since I knew getting a flight at 7:30 would entail getting to the airport at 5:30 a.m., getting up at 3:00 a.m. to finish packing, have breakfast and drive 1/2 hour to the airport, I opted to spend the extra $100 and am I glad I did.  There would have been no meeting with the group over dinner and exchange of email addresses and in fact there would probably been far less fun on the boat as i would have been concerned since at that point I had not had time to re-organize my suitcases which were rather jumbled since I had been in Croatia 15 days, and it was an international flight.    As it was, I was in bed by 11:00 p.m. (dead tired and slept like a baby) and up at 7 to pack and have breakfast for a 9:30 pickup for the airport. Got there before 11 which was plenty of time for a International flight. They let me keep the scooter and Gate Check it, but told me I would not be able to get it at the Gate at the Rome end because they were again parking on the Tarmac.  This time though a wheelchair was readily available and the guy was on the ball and got the suitcase, managed the hand luggage and found the scooter without problem.  He would not accept a tip either as he said he would lose his job if he did.

Arriving in Rome was wonderful and I was met by the most accommodating of drivers who told me "he was at my service for the next three days" and that I could stop whenever I wanted (he would park in the strangest places and wait by the van until I had a photo), and that I should let him know if I needed the "Toilet", or wanted to change the air conditioning or the radio.    The Hotel was a surprise as the front door was in a laneway, dark, grungy, and most unappealing.  However once through the glass doors, you were in the most delightful boutique hotel with a courtyard where we ate breakfast, a lounge and very up to date rooms with fabulous air conditioning.  It was still 28 degrees so the air conditioning was very welcome.  I have included pictures of the cute hotel and the square at the end of it where I ate dinner most days and listened to locals playing music and met some interesting tourists - the cafes were full of them.  The other direction was the bridge over to another part of Rome.  More expensive cafes here and no music.  Also the streets not as good and the streets so narrow that I thought I might not be seen by the cars so I scooted back to the other side of the bridges. If anyone knows Rome, they will know that these bridges go over the Tiber River.  I do not know how many there are but a few dozen I would think, each with a different name.     Tomorrow I will download the picture of the vatican which was fabulous.   Now onto the pictures.  There may be a couple of videos also so do go back and click on them after the slideshow.
