Moscow is an incredibly expensive city, so to help keep costs low we got involved with a website called Couchsurfing. The idea is you stay with somebody free of charge and in return you offer them your place, should they ever visit your city.

We stayed with an American couple called Ryan and Imani. They had a very small sofa bed in their room which they very kindly offered to us. After the first night we met up with Jen who also stayed with Ryan and Imani which meant 5 in the bedroom, and very little sleep.

We visited the big sites like the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral, but what we enjoyed the most was probably the Moscow metro system. Each station is completely unique, but the norm of marble walls, high ceilings and grand chandeliers make it a great way to travel. The only problem with the metro is the lack of maps, which the designers must have decided would spoil the feel of the metro, and so makes it very difficult for tourists to plan their route.

After three days and two nights with Ryan and Imani, Myself, Charlie and Jen took the 8 hour sleeper train to St. Petersburgh, which seemed incredibly short after spending four days on a train to get to Moscow.
