We arrived very early in the morning and slept in the airport before meeting David Bradford there, who was flying to London and very kindly offered us his apartment whilst he was away.

We then met up with an old friend from Belfast, Jamie Chapman, who took us out in Hong Kong on Friday night, did not let us put our hands in our pockets and ensured that Saturday was a complete write off.

We spent quite a bit of time with Jamie and his fiancee Nina as they took us round some of Hong Kong's sights and restaurants.

Hong Kong was a great introduction to China, we spent 5 nights seeing the city with Jamie & Nina and waiting for our Russian visa.

The visa was a terrible introduction to Russia. The staff were barbarously rude, we had to wait 3 working days and they charged us 100 pounds each for their little sticker.

Once we picked up our passports from the Russian consulate we headed straight to Shenzhen where we hoped to catch a bus to Yangshau. We had heard how awful the bus from Shenzhen to Yangshuo was, and it did not disappoint.

We had a six hour wait in Shenzhen before catching the 10 hour bus. The journey started off ok, but then the driver packed the aisle with people he picked up along the way, turning the bus in to an oven and making a trip to the toilet very difficult.

It was a terrible journey and we vowed never to take the bus in China again.
