I found out later that I started my trip 150 m away from the proper trail head…as a result I bushwacked through the valley forest only to gain the wrong ridge…it did not matter.. the vistas made-up for my errors. After a 40 minute scree and steep grass traverse my route joined the correct approach at a high col, about 700 m above valley bottom.
From the col, the orange and green algae from the high mineral waters of the spring could be easily seen across a small high valley. Another traverse of 20 minutes from the col led to the warm springs. The setting is spectacular…high about half way up Mist Mountain. Three pools have been dug out form the side of large slope with gargoyle like limestone tower hanging above the springs …I enlarged the lower third pool and kick back to soak and sun tan, admiring the high vistas. The water was pleasantly warm without any sulfur smell or taste…
I though that I would have the place to myself…but by mid afternoon on five others came to enjoy the soak…however by that time thunder storms were starting to build…it was time to head down….this time by the correct route….
This is a special place…hopefully it will remain wild and unspoiled.
