A tiring day leaving Potsdam and a mixture of motorways where 160mph Bugatti Veyrons whizzed past, and small side roads filled with lorries as we travelled cross country through the Harz mountains. After 635 km we arrived at Koblenz an impressive city at the confluence of the Rhein and Mosel rivers. The city is dominated by a huge hill top castle. We quickly checked into our hotel and then sped off to the local Jaguar dealer to check the car over. As we approach the finish line, every clunk, squeak and drip from the car may spell disaster so we have been very careful to check out any issues. The Jaguar staff were very helpful lifting the car up in the air to check the underneath. The wear and tear is beginning to tell. Now both axle seals are leaking and one of the axle tubes is also weeping. The engine has developed a small leak from the sump gasket but none of these troubles are terminal so we will soldier on. Today it rained heavily and Nicola has become adept at avoiding the drips which pour from the crack in the roof.

the home straight....
Hi there you intrepid duo, wow what a trip. I have hugely enjoyed reading your daily entries and combined with the rally site's running reports (love Syd's style) they have given a wonderful taste of the adventure that you've all had. I dearly hope those crucial 30 minutes can be made up somewhere (or the Merc maybe loses 30 minutes between now and Paris........or is that too uncharitable of me??!!) but whatever the final result may be, well done on an amazing achievement. I can't wait to hear more about it when you get back.
Enjoy the last day and have a fantastic time in Paris!
much love Louise
