SPRING CREEK REST STOP
(13-15 October 2006)
We all awoke just before sun up on Saturday and Ashley, Leanne and Kids set about getting organized for their morning drive into the Purnululu National Park to see the Gorge and Beehive Structures known as the Bungle Bungles. We set about setting up a little better. We stayed back to look after the caravans and plan to set out just before lunch when they were due to arrive back, so that we could depart. It was a dirt road ahead not suitable for caravans. We cook a roast lamb on the gas stove for dinner that night, because we suspected that we would not get back before late.
We depart at 11.45am for the Bungle Bungles. We took a 3kms walk to the Cathedral Gorge and back with Jye winging the whole way. It was worth the walk and we could not just imagine what it would look like if we came back here after the wet. We took many photo's on our afternoon out because it really is one of our great wonders. It was extremely hot on the walk and the kids were relieved to get back into the air conditioned 4wd. On the way back because the dirt road had so many bends and dips the kids both vomited in their seats and Raquel was very queasy in the stomach. When Raquel was getting Jye out of his seat to avoid him vomiting in his seat, he proceeded to projectile vomit all of her face, hair and eyes. It is just one of those memories that you will never forget and we had one of the biggest barnies on our trip. I am sure Greg thinks that he is a rally driver when he gets on these roads.
Back at the rest stop it was filling up fast and we were very impressed with this Fifth Wheeler that was parked just up from us. Ashley starts to get to know them and the next morning confirms to Raquel that they have traveled Australia before and have written a book Bush Rats and Bull Ants or something. I could not believe what I was hearing as I had borrowed this book before I left from my father-in-law and it was an amazing read and gave me the inspiration to get out and travel. I could not help myself I had to go over and introduce myself and tell them what a good read it was. There were a very down to earth couple with lots of good information. I could not wait to telephone my father-in-law and tell him he would not believe it. He would be so jealous.
Up early the next morning Sunday, we set out at 7.15am for Halls Creek for fuel and supplies. I pick up the Saturdays paper, even though it was Sunday for a read up about WA. We soon discover that there is a big employment shortfall in WA and if you are out of work there is something wrong because everybody is crying out for people.
