LAKE HART
(12-14 August 2006)

We found the lookout and camp ground and realize that if we had stayed here overnight we would have been wind blown, so we went exploring and camped closer to the salt lake.  After exploring this lake the next morning we discovered that the nearby RAAF base, bombs this lake with explosives and we really should not have been exploring the lake itself, because there were live bombs underneath the surface which could go off if stepped on.  There were mountains of crusted up salt and it tasted just like our table salt.

This was a good camp ground, protected by the salt/sand dunes of the lake, we could have our fire, toast our marshmallows and have our camp oven.  We successfully cooked a baked chicken dinner without burning it and it was divine.  We only wish that we had taken photo's of it.  We decided to stay a little longer and only stay a shorter period of time at Coober Pedy, our next stop.
