Shaun, as usual, was up very early and getting a little confused by the fact that everyone else was getting up early too... and all ready to go out...!!! He was completely surprised by Anne's early birthday present to him of an early morning surfing lesson at Typhoon Lagoon... and we all got to go along and watch...!!! It was a little surreal being at the water park while it was still dark... very strange indeed!

Shaun had his lesson along with about eight others, most of them having one or two people with them to watch. According to Jenny the instructor, Shaun had the biggest group of people watching him that they'd ever had at the park, there were nine of us with him plus Margaret turning up about an hour into the fun. He, and the others, had a great time in the water, assisted by the very talented Bailey & Logan. It was a great morning and we were all thoroughly entertained by them for sure. At 09:45 the surfing had to stop to allow the park to open to the public for ten o'clock. We were escorted back to the entrance to wait for "rope drop" and dashed back in to grab our favourite position overlooking the wave pool as soon as the rope hit the ground.

The next six hours or so were spent sort of relaxing and going on the various water rides, the best one of which is "Crush 'n' Gusher", a water coaster that is a touch different from your conventional roller coaster, set in an old disused peanut factory. The braver ones in the group took on the dangers of snorkelling across "Shark Reef" and all made it across the shark infested waters safely...!!! After they'd dried off, Elaine and I took Elise to the Pearl Factory there and let her choose her own pearl which we had mounted on to a setting to go onto her charm bracelet when we get back home. She chose well too, getting an oyster with a 7.5mm pearl in it, with a suggested street value of around $90...!!! This was in recognition of the brilliant results she'd achieved at school, which subsequently enabled her to get into the college she so desperately wanted to go to... well done Loulee...!!!

Around four o'clock we packed up and headed for Ghirardelli's Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop, the Italian ice cream emporium in Downtown Disney. We met up with Margaret, Hayley & Tom here for a while and, of course, savoured the delights of their Italian ice creams. Then it was back to the villa for a rest and a bit of a freshen up. As we got out of the car there we could hear very loud bird calls coming from across the road, and it turned out to be a pair of Sandhill Cranes just wandering around the villas. They are quite big birds (see photo), standing around four feet high at least, and I think the girls were a little wary of them!

At seven thirty we headed off to The Black Angus Steak House in Kissimmee for a steak dinner. The place has been totally refurbished after a recent serious fire, and I'm pleased to report that the food was still as good as ever; their steaks just melt in the mouth... hmm, hmm, hmm...! We all ate far too much, no change there, and it was back to the villa by about ten o'clock for a nightcap and some shut eye before yet another early start for the magic in the morning...!!!

Oh, by the way, have I mentioned lately just how awesome that Mustang actually is...??? It appears that because the car is bright red my nickname is now "Lightning", as in Lightning McQueen, which will make sense to anyone who has seen the kids animated movie "Cars"...!!!
