Last morning in NYC... No need to rush out today as we have the room until noon, so plenty of time to sort ourselves out and get packed. Elaine suggested that we skip breakfast (she never ceases to surprise me) and have a brunch type meal when we leave the room, which we did at twenty to twelve. Our intention was to take a look around the Chrysler Building and Grand Central Station, both of which are just a couple of blocks away. As it was definitely brunch time we thought Grand Central Station Food Hall would be a good place to start. Juniors seemed a good option, so our last 'proper' burgers in New York were the order of the day... good call, but neither of us could finish our massive plates of food. Sorry Shaun, we let the side down...!!!

The Chrysler Building was next on the agenda, and we left GCS onto Lexington Avenue and then... promptly missed our target by a block so had to walk back down 42nd Street to find it... doh...!!! How could we have missed the second highest building in the city...??? Being a Sunday it was shut, as we thought it might have been, but they left the main entrance doors open so the main lobby at least could be seen. The art deco interior was fantastic, a real step back in time. After this we had to make our way back to the hotel so Elaine could rest her leg, which was still very painful. I’m amazed she has managed to get about as much as she has; her pain threshold is light years ahead of my own...!!!

On the dot of five o’clock our car arrived to take us to JFK Airport, and the journey could not have been more different from our hell ride on arrival. An immaculate leather upholstered Lincoln Towncar guided by the smoothest of drivers, with easy listening music drifting from the six speaker sound system. Turned out that the CD that was playing had been burned by our driver and he did no more than give the CD to Elaine when we arrived at the airport. What a way to end a fantastic holiday to the Big Apple. Thanks Luis, you’re a star...!!!

As is apparently normal, our American Airlines Boeing 777 took off nearly an hour late, but to our surprise the captain announced that our flying time would be 6 hours 18 minutes, not the 7 hours 15 minutes we were all expecting. And it was just that, we landed at exactly 09:00 at Heathrow, which was the time listed on our tickets... well done American Airlines...!!!
