Another sad moment for us as it's time to leave Deidre's and head back towards Sydney. Ideally we would like to travel a bit over half way today, somewhere around Port Macquarie is our target, so hopefully we can get that far. After breakfast we say our good byes, and before getting on the road proper, we firstly head back to Brunswick Heads, where we ate last night, so as to see it in the daylight.
Once we get going the first stop we have on the way is at Broadwater Koala Reserve. Unfortunately we didn’t find any koalas, but did see a pair of Scaly-Breasted Lorikeets hollowing out a nesting hole in a tree, and a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets getting up close and personal with each other. We're soon back on the road and eventually lunchtime creeps up on us again, just as we reach the town of Woodburn. As we'd driven through here before we knew this was a good place to stop and have a rest. Right by where we parked we find a little picnic area on the bank of the Richmond River, an ideal spot to eat our healthy low fat pies, sausage rolls and cakes that we got from the Wurlitzer Bakery here...!!!  Elaine & Elise were a bit concerned by the inquistive flock of Australian White Ibis that were very interested in our tucker and edging closer and closer to them. I hand feed a couple of them to help attract their attention away from my nervous ladies, and they do manage to survive the ordeal. There was also a flock of noisy Little Corellas in a tree where we were sitting, I just can't get over the amazing amount of wildlife there is in this country.
Soon we're making tracks again, and stop for a comfort break at a great little place on the Clarence River called Ulmarra, and sometime later we pulled over at Nambucca Heads to watch the sunset over the bay. We did manage to make it to Port Macquarie and found a brilliant little boutique hotel, the Quality Inn, which had great views out over the ocean, not that we were able to see them until the next morning. We were getting quite hungry by now and another guest booking in at the same time as us suggested we go to the Port Macquarie Bowling Club for dinner. As it was literally around the corner we checked it out, and it was a good call on his part, a huge and varied all you can eat buffet... so we did!!! It was quite late by the time we finished eating, in fact we were all but the last to leave the restaurant area, so it was straight back to the hotel and straight to bed.
