We all had a bit of a lay in this morning, and after booking out of the motel, we went to a little family place for our breakfast that was just down the road. The Bay Tree Tea Shop was great, we got there as they were just opening up, and ordered full cooked breakfasts. The old boy in there was lighting the two wood fires, and was suffering downdraughts, so the smoke was billowing all around us as we waited for our food... luckily for him we saw the funny side of it!!! We chatted to him while waiting for our breakfasts, and like most of the Australians we'd spoken to so far, he asked us if we liked Australia and even if we'd like to live there, I believe this shows a great passion for their country. Oh... and our answer to that was a resounding "Yes" by the way...!!!
Soon we were on the road again and heading for Scenic World in the Blue Mountains near Katoomba. Here they have Skyway, a large cable car that crosses the gorge near the famous Three Sisters. Now, in this cable car they have a glass floor section which is electronically opaque when you get on and switched off during the ride, giving you a view straight down to the floor of the gorge. This was a little unnerving to some in the car...!!! They also have the world's steepest train, that was originally used to transport the coal from the mine. It takes you down the mountain at an angle of 52 degrees, and Elaine screamed all the way down like she was on a Floridian rollercoaster...!!! From here you can follow a couple of raised walkway trails through the forest, after which you can travel back up to your starting point in the cable car. The views across the valley to the Three Sisters and beyond take your breath away, yet another amazing place.
We had some lunch here, and after a bit of a wander around the town of Katoomba, we were off on our way to Singleton. But it was further than we thought so had cut it fine for meeting Leigh in time. When we finally got there we couldn’t find the hotel, and my mobile had run out of charge, so couldn’t call Leigh to let her know!!! After eventually finding the hotel we quickly got changed and drove over to Leigh & Greg’s place, but I hadn’t put the house number into the TomTom, so had to guess which house it was and luckily managed to get it right first time... at last something went right this evening!!! Luckily for us Leigh had rebooked the restaurant, so disaster was averted. We had a lovely meal together, all quite relaxed with plenty of family things to talk about, and we actually got a photo of the camera shy Leigh to remember it all by...!!!
