We're having a relaxing day with Jeannette & Rex today. Good timing as the weather has worsened, it's very cold, very wet and very windy. After breakfast Jeannette goes through some of the old family photos & memorabilia with us. There are some great photos here and I was able to photograph many of them to use in my family tree research. Among other things they've got an old writing slope and note book case that was taken to Australia in 1857 by my Grand Uncle, Waldron John Bundock, and an original Indenture of his for the ship building apprenticeship with my Great Grand Uncle, George Frankland Dennis Bundock in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. There's also a series of picture postcards sent to my Grand Aunt-in-Law, Jane Bundock (nee Sach) from a friend of hers named Rose. These were sent between 1907 & 1910 to addresses in Romford, Shenfield, Brentwood & Kelvedon. It was fantastic to see all these family related things.
Jeannette's mother, Jeanne, is coming over to have dinner with us today, and I have really been looking forward to meeting her. She is my father's First Cousin and I remember hearing lots of stories from my Mum & Dad about their Merchant Navy days visits to Australia and meeting up with her when they had shore leave in Sydney. She is such a lovely lady, full of family tales & stories. Her memory is absolutely amazing and she's as sharp as a pin. Most of the photos we'd looked at earlier were hers and she was happy to go through them with us, filling me in as to who they all were. Dinner time was soon upon us, it was a lamb roast, and very tasty too.
After going over our local sightseeing options with Jeannette & Jeanne, it seemed to make sense for us to travel up to The Blue Mountain area tomorrow, and stay somewhere in that area overnight, before moving on to Singleton the next day, rather than travel all the way back on ourselves to Mandurama. This would save us well over four hours of driving between the two places. So that is now our master plan, just hope that the rain lets up a bit to give us a chance to actually see the mountains when we get there!!! After Rex took Jeanne home we all had a relaxing evening chatting about lots of stuff, before heading for bed to recharge our batteries for our busy day tomorrow.
