Where I stayed
Jeannette & Rex's place

Sadly it was now time to leave John & Anthea's, to travel up to Jeannette & Rex’s place in Mandurama. John kindly took us into Canberra to pick up our car, after giving us a last quick sightseeing tour of the city from the outskirt viewing places. At the rental place we hit our first problem since being in Australia. Again we’d chosen to have a Hyundai i30, which we now knew was a bit too small, after having one in Cairns. When I went to collect the car from their car park I noticed that it didn’t have a parcel shelf, which meant our luggage would be on permanent show while we were touring around. So I returned to the office and asked for a shelf from another car, but they didn’t have another i30, or any other car for that matter! After much "discussion" it was agreed that we could drive over to the main depot at the airport to get another car, but all they offered was a Suzuki Swift!!! No use what so ever...!!! More “discussion” and phone calls to the airport and we eventually managed to blag a Suzuki Grand Vitara at no extra cost... result...!!! Downside to all this was that we had now lost over two hours of our day, and it would now be a bit tight getting to Mandurama for the time we had arranged with Jeannette.
As soon as we had sorted the car out we were on the road and headed for Boorowa. John had suggested that we stop off here as many of the original brick buildings were built by William Bundock, who was born in Essex around 1832. These include St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, built in 1861 and the police station which has just recently been sold for use as a private residence. From Boorowa, it was straight up to Mandurama via Cowra, which apparently is the friendliest town in NSW. We knew the farm was a bit isolated, but our good old TomTom got us there safely, and we didn't get lost once.
The weather was really turning now, we’d had rain on and off while we were travelling up, and it was also freezing cold, made all the worse by the strong wind blowing across the valley. So we drove up the hill to the house and were made to feel very welcome by Jeannette, Rex and their roaring fire...!!! From the off, we were all chatting like old buddies, and it was well past nine o’clock before we realised we still hadn’t had dinner... which was soon rectified by Jeannette! After dinner there were more family tales before we headed of to our comfy beds.
