My hosts took me to Atlanta international airport where we said our fond farewells, before I went thru the process of check-in, customs, etc for the loooooooooooong flight back home!

First leg to Dallas, an hour in transit, then off to LAX, then a decent wait at Tom Bradley International where I caught up with 3 x other Aussie work colleagues for a catchup about their indivudual travels in various corners of the US over the past week.

All too soon, it was time to board the longest leg from LA down to Auckland, New Zealand....after 10hrs in the air, an hour to stretch the legs before heading back thru security for the 3-4 hours to Brisbane in my home state was very welcome! A good mate of mine from Brisy, who also worked for the same company as me, kindly collected me from the airport so I could relax at his home for a few hours instead of sitting with strangers at the airport! What a great guy...one last 1.5hr flight from Brisbane, back home to Mackay. Phew!!!

How good is it to see loved ones after an absence??

And what were the chances I would travel half-way around this world of ours to a place I had never dreamed before of visiting, only to be looked after by the most special bloke & his lovely wife & daughters? After only one short week, we felt just like great mates!

These sort of warming experiences strengthen our belief in humans.....there is so much negative out there, beamed right into our living rooms each night (if we allow it), that it is sometimes easy to lose faith in humanity.

Here's to Tony, Wendy, Morgan & Gracie!!!  A huge thankyou for a trip I will always remember fondly.
