i just got off the phone with the RocktheBoat cruise in Paihia (Bay of Islands) to reconfirm the overnight trip Paul and I are going on tomorrow. that also drills home that there's two weeks until my extended vacation begins winding down. so, naturally, my brain is pulsing with thoughts of the good, the bad, and the ugly of this trip. was there even an ugly? oh, maybe that time in Christchurch... engh, nevermind that.
the past month has basically been spent - give or take a few nights in town/wandering around the Pukekohe train station - here, at the farm, either 'on duty' working in the mornings, or taking some daytrips to the zoo (!!), local and not-so-local beaches, and driving around the area to do different errands. i quite enjoy those days, just driving around with Sarah and the kids, looking for a good way to spend the afternoon. it usually ends with a picnic on a beach somewhere... and really, who could complain about that?
i'm glad this is the way my trip worked out. getting a lot of good travelling in when i first got, especially doing some of that on my own, gave me time to take in what this country has to offer. and yes, i know i'm going to miss nearly everything. i had this thought yesterday of how odd it will seem to drive around Ontario again and not run into a massive lake or another side of the ocean around every turn. i know now that once i have the freedom - in my career and financially - to pick exactly where i want to 'settle down', there's going to have to be both water and mountains nearby. that's something i'm going to miss a great deal back home.
the next two weeks are really just about tieing up any loose ends i may have here; saying goodbye; and making a little bit more money to keep me going at home.
expect at least another entry before i leave NZ, and then who knows what during the hellish 3 full days of travelling i'm doing to get back home.

Winding up
In some way, I feel like I managed to go on this with you. Your pictures have painted a picture, along with your words, of how and what you did this 'vacation'. I'm obviously looking forward to seeing you again and getting a 1st person account of it, but I can't help but feel like I'LL miss it too haha
Jealous you're going to the Bay with Paul, I hope you guys have fun while you're there. See if you can steal him back for me heh?
Love,
J
