Karaka itself.. itty bitty. we're not even technically listed as 'Karaka' on our mailing address, it shows up as Papakura. but Karaka is full of farms such as the one I'm on, and smaller homes which you can only assume house families. it is good to be away from a downtown area right now; good because it means I am forced to sit back and relax and good because my money won't fly out of my wallet like it could. but it's also going to be a case of trying to put off getting stir-crazy. the car I mentioned before? the manual transmission car.. yeah, I killed the battery after 'driving' it for the first time. yay me! haha so it was dead for a week, and is now back to being the crux of my existance. I have managed to drive it up and back on the road we're on, but not without stalling it a few times. it's tricky. I not only have to try and manuever a stick shift and clutch.. but do so while staying to the left, to the left (that's my mantra).
other than being out in the middle of nowhere, this past week has been great. I fell in quickly with the family, and the kids, mostly the two younger girls, took to me very easily. I'm glad to be in with a family, not feeling like I'm kind of floating around from hostel to hostel anymore.
and there's a pretty big day coming up at the end of this week for me. nuts, I even don't believe that I'm 25 already. when did that happen, exactly? I've got Paul and Dave to celebrate with tomorrow night, so I am thoroughly happy with that. looks like it'll be a good -albeit very different - birthday this year.
