it's been 2 days since leaving 'home' in Nelson, but it feels like a ton longer. probably a lot has to do with not getting a full night's rest since then (this can be blamed both on the *noise* of camping near a set of train tracks as well as the temperature + no sleeping bag for Heather) it was definitely an odd feeling to drive away from the Green Monkey and know that I most likely won't be going back there anytime soon. or even if I did, that it wouldn't be the same - Chris and Debs have the place on the market to sell and move to Africa!
so. the adventure since Nelson has been driving along one of the most beautiful highways I've ever been on - highway 1.. aka THE highway in New Zealand - which skirts the Pacific Ocean. so officially I am near the ocean now. and am soaking up as much of that ocean breeze .. and seafood.. and I can.
Kaikoura, where Aaron and I stopped just outside of to camp, is gorgeous. I see why it's talked up by so many backpackers. but also small. even small by NZ standards. so as nice as it was to see for 2 days, I think I got the gyst of it and can feel comfortable moving on. as of this afternoon, we are in Christchurch. which is the biggest city on the South Island, and which I also have a crush on already. it's just really.. fun. tons to see, and it appears tons to do, too. SO. I may come back here after discovering the other parts of the South - aka 'Fiordland' - that I've been really dying to see.
I'm thinking that I'll probably tool around for another week or two, and then settle back down in a city - most likely this one - and work until Christmas. money's become an absolute issue to contend with, and I'm back to paying for hostels again, so the sooner I can start working for $$, the better.
tomorrow is the Southern Amp 2 concert that I've been looking forward to since I heard about it back around Auckland. !! there are 2 Kiwi bands that I'm really interested in seeing play, and then the rest of the day is all up in the air. should be a great time. I'll post pics and maybe a review when I get another chance on the internet (again, back to paying to use internet time.. booo)

ps. I am officially the Rummy champion of this trip. and Yaneff.. however that's spelled. camping = card games.

**more pics coming soon!**
