Marahau Sea Kayaks and the Green Monkey hooked me up nicely with a comp kayaking trip today. see, if you work reception at a backpackers, they tend to want you to know the activities and trip ideas that are in the area so you can then help plan trips for other people. so.... since I hadn't been to the Abel Tasman yet, and this company was looking for more promotion, I got to do a free day trip today.

my trip went from Marahau to Watering Cove in the Abel Tasman National Park. it was a guided tour, and Issac, my tour guide (and kayaking partner.. score!) was great at pointing out things about the park I would've otherwise totally overlooked. we had lunch at Watering Cove, and then were allowed to do a walk of our own either to Anchoridge or on to Torrent Bay. well, as soon as I fell onto the beach at Anchoridge.. there really was no going any further for me. a beach.. a very warm, very sandy, very beautiful beach almost just to myself in the end of October - this is an almost-perfect world.
I stayed on the beach until 4pm, when we got to take a water taxi back to Marahau. oh my gosh.. the boat was almost more fun than the kayaking! haha we kept hitting waves and jumping off them. so fun. once we reached the beach - where the tide was wayyyyy out - we all of a sudden starting motoring forward on the dry land. took me a moment to realize we were being towed by a tractor up to the ramp. too cool
what a great day. although, the one downside is how unbelievably sore my arms are right now. it feels like I've been lifting weights for a few hours straight. ow. but worth it. so worth it.

You did it!
So proud of you, and the pipes you're building up! haha I SO wanted to go kayaking in BC, so we've got to try some sea-kayaking at some point; maybe not in the river (yucky!), but we'll think of something.
yay to perks in hospitality!
