Friday morning (18/03/11), after the St Patrick's Day night out, on my way to work I decided I needed some fried noodles to settle my stomach a bit. I stopped somewhere small and ordered my food which was fine, but the people that worked there took great pleasure in testing all of my Chinese. They insisted on talking to me even though half the time I would say that I didn’t understand them in Chinese. Love audiences when I eat… especially when they’re so shocked I can use chopsticks haha.
At work, having been told a couple of days ago that the Jiefangbei branch had thrown a St Patrick’s Day fashion show for the teachers and kids, we had no choice in Fuling but to throw our own celebration. Obviously them not understanding the relevance of St Patrick’s Day here, we called ours Green Day, it’s easy for them to say and understand the theme of wearing anything green.
As ours was last minute, it was bit of a mess; half fashion show, half cover yourself in anything green, but it was still fun.
I needed some rest after the previous week’s drinking and so didn’t get up to much after work on Friday, Saturday (19/03/11) or Sunday (20/03/11).
Monday (21/03/11) was my day off and apart from going out for food, I just chilled out in my apartment for the day watching movies n stuff – first time I think I have done that since I have been here, I needed it.
On Wednesday (23/03/11) after a weekly staff meeting, I was on my way back to Chongqing again… not on a jolly this time, I only found out the previous day that I needed to go back and sort out some more visa paperwork with Sean and Rebecca, our HR girl.
I wasn’t going to get to CQ until quite late as usual though so no running around with them until the next day. I actually wanted to meet up with Mark, Sean and Zack to go for a quiet one that night, but Emmy, the head teacher in Jiefangbei wanted to meet up with me, go for a meal and sort out some other things :-S.
I met up with Sean and Rebecca just after lunch the following day (Thursday 24/03/11) and for the whole afternoon was whisked from one government building to the next having my photos taken, documents checked and questioned etc… Rebecca does this all the time and they know her so the process was a lot easier than what it could have been… best part is I didn’t have to pay for any of it :D.
It was 6pm by the time we finished in CQ and I was dropped straight off at Chowtianmen bus station to catch a ride back to Fuling. I had 20 minutes spare though so popped into the Yangtze River Hostel nearby, which is where I stayed for a month, to say hello to everyone.
On the journey back, when I was about 15 minutes away from Fuling, I got a phone call from Vivi, one of the girls I work with, asking how long I was going to be, as they wanted me to go to District 14 with them again. I was up for it, but told them that I hadn’t eaten anything yet, and for an unknown reason, they were in a rush so they ordered a sweet garlic pork dish with rice for me so that, when I arrived, we could head straight out and I would eat in the club haha.
We were only there a couple of hours this time, nothing eventful and I was back home by midnight.
