Finca Ixobel is a really nice farm that was bought 30 or so years ago by an American couple who wanted to farm.  Poptun was then 18 hours away from Guat City on the route to Tikal, so lots of tired travelers ended up at the Finca which slowly developed into a  great destination.  We did the cave tour following an old man in rubber boots 3.5 very long kilometres thru mud and jungle and over the cow pats to a big hole in the ground, which of course we headed into after our guide lite a few candles.  The water is up to your chest to start and then it gets deeper.  We blindly follow the old guy til we are swimming thru the cave, under a small tunnel into a bigger cavern with stalatites and stalamites and scrambling over little rushing waterfalls until we come to a place where you can jump 15 feet into a black pool below.  (I made my family rapell instead.)  The guide is closely watching the water levels and its definately a heart pounding exciting experience.  I have to admit I signed with relief to see the sun again.  You don't get many opportunites to experience nature this intimately and it was fantastic.
