I grew up near Hermosa Beach and Zakk attended Hermosa Elementary on Hermosa Street in Rancho Cucamonga, so we were pleased that bus transfer number three was in Villahermosa.  It might even be a nice place.  We stopped there to transfer to the luxury bus after 3 interesting scenic bus rides (translation bumpy).   12 easy and pretty comfortable hours after leaving Catemaco we arrive in Palenque town.  Amazing considering we had no accurate maps and no idea how to get from point A to point B and we are rusty at travel sign language, but those old skills emerge.  People are friendly and helpful and we are grateful that all the doom stories about travel in Mexico are so incorrect.

After eating pollo and aroz in town for dinner, we got a Taxi out to near the ruins.  Just by the park gate the road turns off down a little dirt track in the jungle, the area is called El Panchen, in the dark it just looks like tropical rain forest with a few lights from huts, but the sounds of Reggae music through the forest reveal a thriving traveller hang out of cheap cabanas (and a couple of tree houses) amoung the trees and a couple of restaurants and campgrounds with the smell of aromatic herbs eminating from the VW bus with the flowers and peace signs on the side.
