South bound again after a couple of nights in Joinville. Wine tasting on our minds today :-) so couldn't resist a spot of lunch and of course some deguste in Chablis. Beautiful drives through sunflowers and lavender fields. Chablis is a pretty little town with many wine tasting caves and resellers. Bought some supplies to last us for the next couple of nights. Q. did you know that the total of the world product of Chablis Grande Cru is grown in only 1sq KM of vineyard!! No wonder it's so expensive.....
Onward then to the ancient hilltop town of Vezelay....this is to be our stop for the next 2 nights. Having got there late afternoon and with the tent up for a mere 5 minutes...thunderstorm number 2!! Having initially thought that we could sit under the tent canopy and 'watch it' pass day....we quickly realised that unless drastic action took place that the tent and us inside it were in danger of landing on the other side of the hill. It was a very long ten minutes....halding down the tent with our full body weight and up to the ankles in rainwater...thankk god for sown in groundsheets.
Having recovered and dried off, we heading into Vezelay for a wander and a beer. The Basilica Mary Magdalene at the top of the hill was hosting an Orff Choral evening. What an atmosphere....hugely atmospheric, moving and awe inspiring.
