I'm in Oregon and it's raining.
I leave for Cairo in about 15 hours, and I will cruise into the city at about 3pm on Friday, Cairo time. Bewildered? Me, too. Or at least I will be. I fly to San Francisco, then Frankfurt, then Athens, where I will spend about 20 hours exploring/recovering/preparing, and then on to Cairo. If you're on the West Coast, I'll land in Cairo at about 5:30am your time. So be sure to wake up then and wish me luck.
This experience is thrilling to me, even before I've made the journey. I'm feeling the same butterflies and bursts of endorphins that I felt just before I left for Northwestern. The American University in Cairo is no NU, however. If you keep up with the travelogue, I'm sure you'll discover that at about the same pace I do. Unless you've been there, and there's a few of you.
I'll keep this brief, because there will be plenty of long-winded entries to come.
I'd love to hear from you all.

OY!
My son, the world traveler! Maybe when he comes back he'll decide to be a doctor, or a rabbi!
bon voyage
enjoy it my friend, studying abroad will be one of the best experiences of your life.
So it begins ...
You are about to undertake a journey that will change your world, and I'm stoked for you -- although I've never heard of this Cairo place. Is there a Walgreens there? Safe travels, I anxiously await the next entry.
Globetrotting
Hey Little Dude... be prepared for challenges and adventures, moments when you long for Dutch Brothers, and moments when you think, 'This is the coolest experience in the world.' Being the reporter that I am, I hope you write everything, but everything, down. I can't wait to read it.
