Today we had the New York City escorted tour organised through GrayLine buses. Their shopfront was just around the corner from our hotel which was great. We got some Brekky from Starbucks - there is one on every corner (2 on our block). I'd love to have a dollar for every coffee consumed in New York City in a day. We met our Tour Guide, Serge and Bus Driver Ronaldo who were excellent throughout the day. There were also plenty of Aussies on the bus so it was good to converse with people who understood us the first time. There were some people from Townsville who'd just arrived in the US so we were able to pass on some travel tips to them as they were heading to Florida and Vegas.

The tour was great, Serge knows everything about New York including who lives where, how much they paid for their apartments and where to shop and eat. We had lunch at a place in Little Italy which had really good pasta. We went all over the city including where John Lennon was shot, the site of the World Trade Centre where they have built a memorial and are rebuilding the buildings and Wall Street. We also went on a cruise from the Brooklyn Bridge which skirted around the city's waterfront and then to the Statue of Liberty where we got some pictures of the lady from the freezing top deck of the boat. He showed us where all the museums were so we can check those out when we come back to New York City.

We were supposed to finish at the Top of the Rock at the Rockefeller Centre but were a bit worn out so we decided to hang on to our tickets for that and used them at our leisure. We went back to the hotel and relaxed for a while then tried to find a place to have dinner as the city was really packed. We went to Tad's Broiled Steaks which was pretty rough, sort of slapped together in front of you and the you could tell the waitresses just didn't want to be there which you could understand at that time on Christmas Eve. Anyway the steaks turned out to be pretty good and we ended up cheering up one of the old waitresses who couldn't speak English. She thought I wanted another beer but I was actually trying to give her a tip because she opened up a booth for us that was supposed to be closing.
