After tomorrow, I officially start IDC - my instructor course. Eeeeeek!!!
It's been very difficult to remain relaxed about this. I am nervous, stressed and worried. After all, I have no backup plan. I have chosen scuba diving as my new life/career and I have to make this work. I am now at a crossroad for a new future and it is nerve racking, I'm not gonna lie.
The course will last 12 days, and then I have a final exam that will last 3 days. So I wanted to write this blog entry in case I will be too occupied and busy to write in the next 2 weeks -which will most likely be the case.
Hopefully the next time I update this blog, I will be an instructor :-)

Today I assisted 5 guys in their Discover Scuba Diving course. It's a short, one day program for people who have never been scuba diving before or who are not certified as Open Water Divers. Even with 3 of us (2 instructors and me) against 5 students, it was difficult. Some of them had never swam before, let alone been in an ocean with scuba gear on. One guy was completely scared of water and kept clinging onto me for support. Another guy did ok going under water, but was afraid and wouldn't let go my hand during the entire dive. While managing these guys, another guy was having a hard time breathing and another guy was floating to the surface. It was a mess...at least on our first dive. Second dive, there were improvements. By the third dive, the guys were diving all on their own, even the guy who was terrified ;)

That is what this life is about. Transformation!
Altering what people think they are capable of, and sharing the amazing world of the ocean.
The one great thing about diving with beginners is that they get so excited about everything! Even about fish that I have seen a million times. Today, as I dived with one guy holding his hand, he kept getting excited over starfish, which exist on every ocean floor! ;)))
But he was seeing it LIVE for the first time. It really is a privilege to share those moments with them.

Tomorrow, I guide a customer on a fun dive! Yay! It will be another full day of work but it will keep me distracted from freaking out about the IDC the next day.

Wish me luck.
I will be back in a couple of weeks!

So proud of you, Masami! What an amazing experience it must have been to see those novice divers improve so quickly, all due to your own teaching!
Good luck!

Hey, don't mock poor beginners. First time I went under and saw Nemo, I was worse than them :-)
