Ok, we are not really staying at the Ritz but it might as well be...at least for me. This is by far the nicest hotel I slept in during this entire trip.
The room has a very plush twin bed and a queen size bed, a TV, a dresser, and a refrigerator. We have a veranda that faces the magnificent Lake Toba.
The bathroom has a bathtub, which I haven't seen in over 3 months. I've gotten so used to showering next to a toilet throughout my journey in the Philippines, Laos and Thailand. By now, I've also gotten used to placing used toilet paper in a trash bin next to a toilet. K was quite shocked by the bathroom layout in Thailand and Indo, particularly by some bathrooms that didn't provide paper.
So to come to a luxury resort like this where there is a separate shower facility in the bathroom, and the ability to flush paper in a toilet is just a whole another world! I've forgotten how normal this all used to be.
The property is beautiful with not only one but two pools!! I am gonna soak up this luxury all day today before we head into the jungle for some hiking with orangutans and I go on my merry way to continue my solo backpacking :-)

The weather is Lake Toba has been fantastic. It has been at perfect temperature - not too hot, not too cool and the air is surprisingly dry. I've been traveling in some miserably hot and humid weather so this is such a welcomed relief!!
This morning we ate breakfast at the resort and headed to one of the pools by the lake. The pool was immaculately clean with a magnificent view! After enjoying a perfect morning by the pool, we headed off property for lunch. A man who rented us his scooter yesterday recommended a restaurant and we decided to give it a try.
We tried some local dish with pork in coconut/ginger sauce, and deep fried stuffed tofu. Delish. We sat on a balcony overlooking the lake with a large bottle of Bingtang (Indo beer). I can't remember the last time I drank alcohol in the middle of the day!

We returned to the Ritz and decided to try kayaking. Neither of us have ever kayaked before, but we watched a family kayak in the morning with smooth, swift motions.
We got in the kayak and...failed miserably.
It was so hard! You would think its just right, left, right, left motions. But no. We could not get the right balance of the paddle motions and kept going in circles. After frustrating 30 minutes, we gave up! Some dark clouds started to come in, so it worked out perfect. We headed to our room for a well-deserved nap ;-)

I don't know how I'm supposed to return to my old life after this trip.
I need to find a way to make this my life permanently!
