Thai New year is much bigger deal than I thought. Apparently it's the one time in a year the Thais take their vacations, so public transport gets booked months in advance!
Well this is extremely inconvenient for a non-expecting traveller like me :-p

I went to the train station yesterday, and all the tickets were sold out for a week! Shit.
I was told at the hostel that I should just go straight to the bus station and hop on a next available bus. The bus station, however, is 1-2 hours away and I didn't want to risk paying $15 cab ride to get there, only to find out buses are sold out as well.
So I walked around town looking for a travel agency. I hoped they will be able to book me a bus ticket in advance. But what I found out that the agents sell "VIP buses" that are designed only for tourists and overcharge like crazy. My travel guide said these agents are not to be trusted, as they sell buses that look great in a picture but what you actually hop on can be completely crappy. So I walked out empty handed, feeling lost and stuck!
What's worse, there was a fire next to our hostel so the Internet was out the entire day. I was unable to research any alternative methods of transport. What a headache!

I woke up this morning, and headed to the train station again. I remembered reading somewhere that sometimes the they add additional trains during the busy season. I knew it was a long shot but I had to try.
I prayed to the universe as I walked up to the ticket booth.
I got a ticket.
Crazy.
Yesterday the tickets were sold out. Today I was able to get a seat. Well I'm not complaining. I was so relieved I found a way out of Bangkok!!

To celebrate, I treated myself to a MOS cheeseburger and fries (it's a Japanese fast food chain). Then I had some Japanese crepe with green tea whipped cream with egg custard pudding and choco syrup! Yes I know I'm a fat ass. Every pound I gained between yesterday and today was all worth it :-D

I'm headed to the train station now, NOT looking forward to the 12-hr train ride, followed by a 3-hr bus ride. But my scuba diving cruise is in a few days so I just need to stay focused on what's on the other end of this brutal transport!

First of all, if you're a fat ass, I'm Jabba the Hut! You enjoy every bite you take - sweating through the mountain treks doesn't count as "strolling" through the countrysides!

Lol for the comparison to the Jabba :-)
Who cares about the calories, just enjoy the trip
