For anyone who knows me, I'm quite obsessed when it comes to researching ahead of time.
When I read about about how impossible it will be to find accommodations during the Chinese New Year, I booked the accommodations in November. Even then, one place couldn't accommodate my entire 7-day stay - I had to split up the days between 2 guest houses.
When I got here, I checked in to the first hotel with no problem. Then I walked over to the second place to confirm my stay in a few days, but they told me they do not have my reservation!
How can that be!?! I was livid, since I had called them from the States using an international calling card. I personally called and spoke to a woman who took my name down. UGH. I was feeling despair, since I had already seen many signs in the streets that said "no vacancy" and many travelers with backpacks walking hopelessly without any luck. I called a few places anyway, but nothing was available. I gave up and decided to sleep off my frustration.

The next day, I ran into Gesa and Gerrit, an adorable German couple I befriended on Tao. They were also staying in El Nido for 7 days, and upon hearing my dilemma they generously offered me their floor in their guesthouse! They were happy to split the cost with me, and I was ecstatic to find a place to sleep for a few more nights. Whew! A crisis diverted.

Yesterday we decided to have a beach day - as if we didn't get enough beach and sun on Tao! We hired a boat and headed to a small island where we played cards and frisbee and just laughed the whole day. They are so much fun and I love them already!
I also realized that yesterday was my 1-month anniversary since I left NYC.
Can you believe it? Do you remember how scared I was to leave for this trip?
The last month has been absolutely incredible. I still have to pinch myself at times. This trip has been more than I could have imagined.
