So we collected our car  from Thrifty in the center of the city and headed out for the Great Ocean Road. When we were collecting the car this random Polish guy came into the shop and started given out about women drivers, there were 3 women and me in the shop with him, so as you can imagine he was ran out of the place, there are a few wierdo's here alright!

We got a Hyundai Getz and we were intially a bit worried about the right hook turn but in the end we didn't have to do any, so we were ok....nice one!

We pulled into Geelong for lunch along the way, nice town, nothing to hang around for though, so we drove on.

Great Ocean Road (GOR)
The GOR was built in memory of the WW1 soldiers and survivors. The GOR stars at Torquay and ends at Warrnambool. We were tipping along nicely when we came to our first `Kangaroo ahead` sign - we were really excited by this as we had our eyes peeled for one, and then Kieran's sharp eyes spotted one, O! it was really great to see one in the wild, brilliant. Ok so we actually only saw his little head, but we were really excited by this (what loosers we are eh!!!) We reckoned good 'ole "skippy" was trying to tell us something, "What is it Skip, keep on driving the great ocean road? " ......"okay mate"!!!!!
We thought we'd see loads more Kangaroos but unfortunately that was our only sighting for the 3 days....sob sob.

Our next exciting stop was "Bells Beach" this place has great waves - great surfing.  From here we motored on to Apollo Bay where we set up camp for the night in a fine caravan park. During the night it rained a bit but our trustly tent held firm....phew!
The next day we saw the major sights along the GOR, Gibson steps, the 12 Apostles, the  grotto etc etc...It was fantastic and we were stopping every 500m to check out another view point at the end of it we were all viewed out!
We stayed at Warnabool and took it easy on the beach, not much going on here really.

The next day we drove to the Grampians Mountains and into the "Outback" for the first time - so we set off on some well signed and some not so well signed roads for "Halls Gap" -  a village in the middle of the Grampian Mountains, We went into the visitor center there and learnt about the Aborginals of the area. There was a restaurant with "bush-tucker" on the menu but it was closed....pity as Kieran really wants to try some Kangaroo etc.
So we flaked off out of here admiring the mountains and views. We drove as far as Ballarat. Here we got a nice campsite and took it handy for the night.

The next day we headed back for Melbourne and returned the car safe and sound, phew......TG.
