We had planned to leave Christchurch early this morning but time just dragged on a bit and before we knew it, it was 4o'clock - in any case we hit the raod for Blenheim. We passed by Kaikora on the way, there is a seal & penguin colony here and we saw loads of them.
When we arrived at Blenheim we booked out wine tour for the next day and booked into our campsite. That night while have dinner we got chatting to a wine maker. Blenheim is in the middle of the Marlborough wine district, this is why we made a stop here. So we got loads of info about the various vineyards in the area from him, nice one, some inside info. What was interesting was that he was drinking cask wine from Chile......he obviously doesn't think much of the New Zealand wines!!!
So the next day we were picked up for the wine tour, the driver was a really nice man, he was about 70years old and he took life very very very slowly, he is dead right too. So he gave us loads of info on the region as we whizzed around to about 5 of the wineries, with tastings at each one.......it all adds up to a nice bit of wine....We were very lucky with our group on the tour, a girl from Galway and a guy from London and they were both about our age with the same level of knowledge on wine...zilch!
At each winery, we were told a bit about the wine and then given samples of about 6 different wines to try. Some of them were gorgeous and indeed we bought one bottle of our favourite. A nice Reisling. In the winery we were able to taste olive oils with different flavours such as garlic. They also gave us liquers and these were exquisite. Following this we were dropped back to our campsite. We were all "wined out" and just hit the hay after another very enjoyable day.
